Pen and Ink Studies
My series of pen and ink drawings on coffee filters combine repeating art deco patterns peppered with ginkgo leaves or lotus flowers. Throughout art history and the Art Deco movement, ginkgo leaves symbolize resilience and endurance. Lotus flowers symbolize spiritual enlightenment and rebirth. I have adopted these symbols in my work as a reminder to sustain myself through the uncertainty of the pandemic.
